Bergen by bike
Bergen by bike is created by cyclers for cyclers in Bergen. This site is made to make the navigation from point A to B easier and faster in Bergen and it districts. The routes on the site is simple and informative and will guide you from the district to the city center. There are four routes that we've featured on this site with a lot of different information. To easily access the routes click on the district you're travelling from either in the interactive map or in the menu.
We recommend everyone to explore the cycle routes in Bergen, by using bike you will save money on toll, fuel and car maintenance. You will of course also help to save the planet for future generations. Think green - go bike!
The city centre of Bergen gives bikers possibilities to safely park and lock their bikes. There is no fee for parking bikes in Bergen city centre. Also all the roads in the centre is allowed for bikes. Be careful when you use your bike in the traffic - remember that it is you who are the soft vehicle.

The smallest district in Bergen is Årstad. It is close to the city centre and it is easy to navigate from Årstad to the centre and back. Within Årstad there are a smaller area called Landås and this is where this route is starting.
Distance: 4,8 km.
Estimated time: 20 minutes.
Type of road: The route have roads where cycles interact with the car traffic. Some shorter parts of the route has bicycle lane.
Meters: Total climb: 12m. Total fall: 99m. Top altitude: 95m.
Intersections and junctions on the road: By using your bike on this route you will not be charged toll. The road is mainly a trafficked car-road with the possibility to ride a bike. The route has traffic lights and other traffic intersections.
This large district has a lot of cycle lanes and roads where bikers can drive. This route extends from the middle of Fana and to Bergen centre. As the longest route this will give you a challenge and on the road you will view a lot of beautiful nature.
Distance: 16,9 km.
Estimated time: 1 hour and 12 minutes.
Type of road: Most of the route has bicycle lane, but for the parts where it is not a bicycle lane there will be trafficked roads where bikers are allowed.
Meters: Total climb: 93m. Total fall: 125m. Top altitude: 62m.
Intersections and junctions on the road: When you drive your bike on this route then you won’t have to pay the toll. The route intersects with traffic several places, and you will meet roundabouts, traffic lights and other traffic intersections.
Fyllingsdalen is a beautiful area with nature and population in harmony. As the route that has the highest altitude, this also means that there will be several sections with climbing on this route. Fyllingsdalen is relatively close to the centre so here you will get a shorter but intense ride.
Distance: 7,8 km.
Estimated time: 39 minutes.
Type of road: The road is mainly trafficked road with bikers allowed. There are a short area with bicycle lane and one section where you will have to ride the bike in the sidewalk over the bridge that leads to the centre.
Meters: Total climb: 136m. Total fall: 166m. Top altitude: 144m.
Intersections and junctions on the road: By riding the bike you wont be charged with the toll. The route mostly intersects with traffic; you will meet roundabouts, traffic lights and other traffic intersections. On the shorter section on the sidewalk you might intersect with people, so please proceed with caution.
Laksevåg district has a lot of coastline where you can enjoy the sea between the small mountain terrain. The route goes from the centre of Laksevåg and reaches the centre of Bergen. A nice route suitable for most people.
Distance: 7,3 km.
Estimated time: 37 minutes.
Type of road: Evenly divided between bicycle lane and trafficked road. Also here you need to bike on the sidewalk for a short section.
Meters: Total climb: 65m. Totall fall: 104m. Top altitude: 56m.
Intersections and junctions on the road: This route has a toll that you won’t need to pay then you bike. You will intersect with roundabouts, traffic light and other traffic intersections. On the shorter section on the sidewalk you might intersect with people, so please proceed with caution.
